goddesses of the Tuatha Dé Dannan, Ériu,
Banba and Fodla (daughters of Ernmas), who
asked that the island be named after them;
Ériu is the origin of the modern name Éire
(Ireland) was the more beautiful and
charismatic of the trinity. Ériu also became
the eponymous patron goddess of Ireland.
